What you do in your teen years sets you up for how your adult body and health will be. You have the chance to make exercise an actual lifestyle habit that you enjoy rather than something you end up forced to do to get later in life. Working out is a great way to keep you in good shape and boost your self-confidence as your body changes.

When you are in middle school your physical body is still changing from child to adult. Because you are still growing and developing this needs to be reflected in the activities that you choose. Find a variety of exercises so you avoid overtraining your body.
A mix of cardio, flexibility, and resistance training will build overall strength but there are a few cautions you need to know about before you go into the gym and start pumping iron.
First be sure to talk to your doctor about starting an exercise program. While your doctor will most likely be in favor of you getting plenty of exercise he/she will also be able to give you advice on any special health considerations you may be dealing with.
Be aware that your bones, joints, and tendons are still growing and developing. If you are lifting weights that are very heavy, you can actually do permanent damage to your body. It is advisable to start your strength training routine using your body weight as resistance. Pushups, pull-ups, sit-ups, squats, and lunges are great exercises that help to strengthen the whole body.
When you are starting out take the time to learn how to do exercises properly. Most people injure themselves in the weight room because they have poor exercise form and they try to lift too much weight. Find a coach or trainer who can suggest what exercises to do and teach you how to do them correctly.
How Often Should I Be Working Out?

Take the time to educate yourself about food. Most of us don’t have parents who know much about nutrition and maybe even have eating disorders of their own. It is up to you to learn more. Find out what food does in your body. Learn what foods in what quantities you need to eat, and how to fuel your body to perform well.
Take pride in your body. Move it everyday. Feed it well. When you take care of your teen body, you can get the payoffs for the rest of your life.
